Arrival by plane
The easiest way to reach Göttingen is to fly to a nearby airport and take a train or a bus. The closest cities (i.e., between 1 and 2h by train from Göttingen) with airports are: Frankfurt, Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin, Hannover. All of these airports are reachable with low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet. You can purchase a train ticket at bahn.de (discounted tickets are available until 1–2 weeks before the date). You can reach Göttingen by bus via flixbus.com.
Arrival by train

Social Program
Opening reception
On the first day of the summer school (August 12), there will be a reception with snacks and drinks at the Historische Sternwarte (Geismar Landstr. 11, 37083 Göttingen) at 19:00. Everyone is cordially invited.
Where to eat?
The university mensas are the cheapest and closest options for lunch. They do not accept cash. You can pay by debit card or by guest card. A guest card can be obtained at the Infobox in the Zentralmensa.

Many other restaurants and cafes can be found in the city center, which is a 10-15 minute walk away. These are also good options for dinner:
Important information: In Germany, grocery stores are closed on Sundays.
What to do on the weekend?
- Take a day trip to Hannover (~30 minutes with FlixTrain/ICE, ~1:20 with regional trains)
- Take a day trip to Kassel (~ 30 minutes with ICE, ~1 hour with regional trains)
- Go for a hike; many routes accessible by public transport can be found on Komoot
- Go swimming or to the sauna at Badeparadies Eiswiese
- Continue learning at the Forum Wissen
- Take a relaxing walk on the old city wall, through the Botanical Gardens, or around the Kiessee.
- See the castle and have a nice meal at Burg Plesse
- See the wild boars and feed some deer at Wildgehege am Kehr

Participation fee
The participation fee amounts to 50€.
School languages
All classes are held in English. For one course in each slot, sign language interpretation (ASL / International Sign) will be provided if needed
Who can attend the school?
The school is suitable for students at master and phd level. Advanced bachelor students with background in linguistics are also welcome. There is no evaluation process for the participation.
Visa letter requests
It is your responsibility to obtain a visa. However, we can send you an invitation letter upon request that will serve as a supporting document that outlines your reasons and duration of stay in Germany. Please let us know your passport number, your date of birth and your gender to be included in the letter.
Will there be an opportunity to present own research during the summer school?
Yes, there is a possibility to present own research. There will be student poster sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 17:45-18:45 in room 3.105. If you would like to present a poster, please indicate this in your registration in the respective field. Presenters will be provided with further details in early summer. Anybody is allowed to submit a poster.
Travel grants
We are pleased to be able to offer travel grants. To apply for a grant, please, send us a motivation letter describing why you want to participate in the summer school and what your financial situation is. As we already received a large number of applications, we cannot guarantee that your application will be considered.

There is an Open Science Framework repository for the summer school, where the instructors can upload their course materials as needed during the summer school. It can be found here: https://osf.io/k89ym/
Note that instructors may also choose to use a different platform individually.
Photography
Photography is permitted in public spaces for generic photos of the overall event, but to protect privacy of all participants consent should be obtained from individuals before their photographs are taken.
Photographs and videos might be taken by the organizers during the event. These will be used for documentation and follow-up reporting. By registering, the participant consents to the use of all images of him or her taken during the event for the aforementioned purposes. By registering, the participant acknowledges understanding that no form of compensation for such usage, monetary or otherwise, will be given.
